Does A Brand New Car Need to Be Clayed

Do brand new cars need to be clayed? The answer is Yes.

Once cars are manufactured, they usually end up sitting in shipping docks that have high exposure to industrial fallout. Often time they are on trains and transporting trucks before getting to their final destination.  If you purchase a vehicle from a dealer often times the vehicle is sitting there for months and contaminants can embed and build up on the cars surface. Rail dust is commonly found on brand new vehicles.

Claying is highly recommended for brand new cars to remove the contaminants and particles that may be embedded into the car’s surface.

Why Clay Wax?

Your vehicle’s surface is constantly getting exposed to environmental contaminants that can stick onto your car’s finish and may cause damage. Contaminants like road salt, tree sap, dead bugs, brake dust, etc. Some contaminants can be corrosive and can damage your car’s clear coat and can cause rust if not removed regularly by using a clay bar.

Regularly washing your car does not always remove all contaminants from your car’s surface. Over time these lingering contaminants will build up and the only way to remove them is by using a clay bar.

By rubbing the detailing clay bar across your vehicle’s surface, it will trap these particles and contaminants and leave a renewed, smooth finish.

Claying not only prevents damage caused by corrosive contaminants, but it also leaves a smooth finish and allows wax and sealant to adhere better.  Clay also can be used to remove water spots from a vehicle.

Prep The Surface

The most effective way to increase the life expectancy of your next wax application is by taking time to correctly prepare the surface. This process includes removing dust and other environmental contaminants that may be embedded in the paint surface. Using wax and sealants can help prevent this, but there is no surety that larger contaminants haven’t spread into the car’s clear coat. To handle this problem speedily before your car’s next wax, applying paint cleaner will do the job.

A proper paint cleaner can be applied like wax, but instead of waiting for the layer to cure, you remove it right away (use microfiber towels). Just like applying wax, paint cleaners should be applied after a newly washed car. The paint cleaner will breakdown remaining contaminants that endured through the car wash, enabling the contaminants to be removed easily with the residual product. Without the contaminants embedded in your car’s finish, the wax when applied will improve adherence, last longer, and bring forth superior results.

Car Waxing Tip #1

TIp #1   Wax your car in the shade

Does it make a difference if I wax my car in the shade or in the sun? Is it better to wax my car in the shade? Believe it or not there is a difference if you wax your car in the sun compared to waxing it in the shade. Waxing your car in the sun will can pose a few problems.

The sun will bake the car wax on your car's suface, which will make it more challenging to remove. Another reason is the direct sun, ingredients in the wax such as oils can evaporate which will cause the wax to be less effective. Lastly, the sun can cause your car's surface to become extremely hot especially if it is sitting in the sun for a long period of time. The heat from the sun can cause your car's paint to soften which will cause it to be vulnerabe to light scratches and swirls. Always wax your car in the shade for the best results. Waxing your car in the shade will make applying the wax easier and is ultimately more effective.

Don't Let Extreme Weather Conditions Damage Your Car's Paint

Extreme weather conditions can harm your car’s exterior especially your car’s paint. Extreme weather conditions such as strong winds can cause damage to your car’s paint. When it’s windy and you’re driving on the streets or on the freeway your car’s exterior is vulnerable to damage such as surface scratches. Strong winds can cause debris such as leaves, branches, gravel, rocks, trash and other particles to get picked by the wind. When the wind picks up this debris and you’re driving on the streets or on the freeway, the debris will make contact with your car.
Since you now know strong winds can cause debris to scratch your car’s paint, there is a preventative measure that can reduce damage or amount of scratches extreme weather conditions such as strong winds can cause. Waxing your car can protect your car’s paint from extreme weather conditions. Wax provides a protective layer between your car’s paint and potentially harmful weather conditions. That is why waxing your car regularly is so important and why it is highly recommended.

Why use Carnauba Wax?

What is carnauba wax? Carnauba wax is hard wax (hardest wax known to man) which comes from the leaves of Brazilian carnauba palm trees. The carnauba wax coats the leaves of the Brazilian carnauba palm trees and shields them from the harsh tropical sun.
Many auto experts recommend car wax with carnauba. Carnauba wax is highly effective in make things shiny, that’s why it is used for automobiles. Carnauba waxes often provide stronger protection than paint sealants. Carnauba waxes are what you use when you want the wettest finish possible for your car. Carnauba waxes often shed water better than paint sealants, which make your car easier to maintain and keep up. This wax does not last as long as sealants, but is more effective.
At CrossRoads Hand Car Wash in Ontario we use carnauba wax to ensure the cars we service get a glossy and shiny finish.
